To be precise, at the end of the year, since according to Ming-Chi Kuo’s latest predictions, Apple would be ready to launch its mixed reality headset (augmented and / or virtual reality) at the end of 2022.

The analyst does not stop there. According to him, this headset – and not glasses, which will not be completed for a few more years – will not need to be connected to a Mac or an iPhone to work. It would indeed embark no less than two processors.

“The most powerful will have a computing capacity similar to that of the M1 for Mac, while the less powerful will be in charge of managing the sensors. “, predicts Ming-Chi Kuo.

It also indicates that the power required to process the information from the sensors is “Significantly higher than on the iPhone. For example, the AR headset requires at least six to eight optical modules that operate simultaneously to provide continuous video stream to the user. In comparison, an iPhone only requires three optical modules operating simultaneously and does not require continuous processing ” data thus produced.

This obviously raises the question of the autonomy of the device. If the M1 is a chip with a very impressive performance / Watts ratio, the fact remains that for a device that will be worn on his head, it will undoubtedly not be necessary to reckon with a too large battery. Some technical details

Anyway, this headset will therefore be geared towards augmented reality and virtual reality, and will be compatible with a “Large set of applications”, with the objective of succeeding in replacing the iPhone within ten years. To achieve these ends, this first headset will carry two micro-OLED 4K screens provided by Sony.
Last week, Ming-Chi Kuo also announced that Apple’s headphones would be compatible with the new wireless standard, Wi-Fi 6E. As a reminder, this evolution of Wi-Fi 6 introduces a new frequency band, to offer three distinct ones. The new arrival (in 6 GHz) will allow better speeds, without the disturbances and uses present on the two historical bands (2.4 and 5 GHz).
